Indus OS had a 5.6% share in the entire smartphone market between January and March. Apple’s iOS had 2.5% share and was at 5th spot whereas Microsoft had 0.3% share which is same as Samsung’s Tizen OS, at no 7. However, Android continues retaining the top spot, according to Counterpoint Research from ET. “We’re adding close to half a million activations every month and we expect to double this within the next six months,” said Indus OS chief executive officer Rakesh Deshmukh. “We have targeted 100 million customers by 2019,” he added. Initially, the Indus OS started with Micromax smartphones about 9 months ago. The company is planning to add its OS in every six smartphones sold across the India by 2017. Indus OS is currently available on 25 android devices and is still leading Indian smartphone market with 83.8% share for the first quarter of the year and in this period about 24.8 million devices were sold. Indus OS is now used on about 1.4 million smartphones. Indus is achieving half a million activations every month, the company is aiming to double these numbers in the next six months, said CEO Rakesh Deshmukh to ET. The company’s future plan is to set a user base of 100 million by 2019. Xiaomi’s MIUS OS accounts 4.1% market share and is at the third spot followed by Micromax’s subsidiary Cyanogen OS which is present in Micromax and Yu smartphones.
