The size of the database is 1.4 GB which was stolen by the group of an unidentified hacker, and it includes thousands of personal data and information of the clients of Qatar National Bank, as well as including the customer transaction logs, personal identification numbers and credit card information. Among the other archive which was published in the resource Cryptome.org, contains a folder titled “SPY”. Analysis showed that the folder contains several files, entitled “Ministry of Defense”, “MI6” (British intelligence) and the “General Intelligence Service” along with the “Mukhabarat” the Arabic name of intelligence services and the main civilian intelligence agency of Egypt, responsible for the both internal and for external security. According to the resources, a folder called “MI6” contains the detailed information about the alleged intelligence officers, including the names of relatives, phone numbers, social media accounts and credit card information. There is a folder called “Al-Jazeera” which contains nearly 30 individual profiles, containing more than 1.2 thousand Microsoft Excel files with different information, allegedly associated with the staff channel. The text files generally contain information about the various transactions, account information, encrypted security answers etc. The Media Network Al-Jazeera said in a statement that “Our staff has been recommended to be vigilant, be prudent and change passwords for those who bank with QNB and report any suspicious activity,”. As the Qatar National Bank said that it was coordinating with all the concerned parties to investigate the matter and offered its assurance that there would be no financial impact for its clients or the bank. Leaders of the Qatar National Bank refuse to comment on the situation, though the bank said that “QNB Group places the highest priority on data security and deploying the strongest measures possible to ensure the integrity of our customers’ information“.
